Agenda Item

2.2) Appoint a New Councilmember or Designate Another Party to the Marin Clean Energy (MCE) Board for the Remainder of 2026. Appointing a Council member or designating another Party to serve on committees is not a “project” under the California Environmental Quality Act, because it does not involve an activity that has the potential to cause a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. (Cal. Pub. Res. Code § 21065).

Good evening, town Council members. I strongly urge that we do not have the Fairfax town council member representing two towns. This is especially egregious as she has not been in favor of reforming MCE. I strongly recommend if one of the San Anselmo town council members cannot take the position that the council appoint the representative from Larkspur or Belvedere. They have been willing to push back after MCE’s mismanagement was revealed.
    Thank you,
    Susannah Saunders

Dear San Anselmo TC, as a San Anselmo resident I feel it's imperative that the community have as loud a voice as possible in pushing for more transparency, accountability, discipline and responsiveness from MCE’s leadership. To that end the TC should designate a strong voice from another town in Marin, such as Stephanie Andre from Larkspur who has already shown great skill as an analyst and a willingness to push back against the stonewalling and lack of responsiveness shown by MCE’s leadership.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide comment on this important issue. As a journalist who has reported on the turmoil at MCE and as a San Anselmo Climate Action Commission member, I believe the MCE is badly in need of deep reforms for the sake of ratepayers who rely on it. I strongly urge the Council to either appoint a responsible member or designate someone from Larkspur or Belvedere, where the mayors have been hard-working advocates of needed change.
